Recovery day

Hi there I’m a bit on a lighter mood today after binge watching about the 100 year celebration of WWI yesterday. I’m totally distracted after watching some footage’s of the real bombing and the aftermath of the war. I have visited Ieper and Zonnebeke a year ago and had seen thousands of white cross in a mass of grave. It doesn’t make any sense then. I was petrified knowing there is actually someone buried underneath those graves. I got to go back there some other time or die unhappy.

Anyway, what is the best way to recover from a heavy and tormenting facts reminding us of sad non- fiction stories of our our fore fathers.

I stitched the day away 🙂

I experimented  with some made in China embroidery threads. Its not a big yay nor  a nay but I couldn’t recommend it yet. DMC or whatever it is that we always use is the best choice. A friend of mine uses anchor and she is also satisfied with it.

I was just curious because I have never ever used any other threads but DMC before. Not even anchor which is also available in the Philippines since I can remember.  Just last year when I was there for six months, I discovered that China is now producing threads bearing the same code number, slightly different tint but almost the same. They are of course a lot cheaper with  somewhat a ratio of 1 dmc = 3 CXC, that is what they called it. I thought I should try it but then I forgot to buy any and went back here in Belgium. These threads which I bought at a local hobby shop around town is apparently  not CXC. It doesn’t have any code and packed per 8 pcs for 72 euro cents. One DMC threads cost me 1 euro 60 cents. Imagine if it is good. But no, I love this hobby too much I have to be Picky.

It is of course an embroidery threads and not as good as the original 6 strands DMC skeins. It is a bit woolly and its not easy to thread needle no. 26 which I customary used. Nevertheless it is strong and when I dip one whole skeins in a glass of water it didn’t show any sign of discoloration whatsoever.

It looks rather lovely when the design doesn’t require a specific color combinations. But then I have yet to compare it to what they called CXC and of course I can only see the durability after some thorough washing. I plan to make a cushion cover with this owl sweethearts when its done.  And  I got to make another pair of them with DMC to compare later on. Another mission to accomplish alongside my never full UFO basket. Don’t ever let this stitch bug bites you, when it hits you seriously. It is incurable 🙂
